Greetings! July is proving to be quite the busy month in advocacy efforts along with the upcoming EducationUSA Forum 2021, which will certainly draw attention to the status of international students in the U.S. We're thankful to the work and postings from NAFSA and the Alliance which are compiled here. There are calls for action from individuals like you! Tweet these articles to your Members of Congress and continue to stay up-to-date on issues through NAFSA's Connecting our World and of course, EnglishUSA posts. The EnglishUSA Stakeholders event in October is now open for registration! -On July 13, the U.S. House of Representatives' subcommittee on ...
These days, our email inboxes are overwhelmed with multiple posts from our professional list-serves, forums, blogs, along with those announcements from our favorite restaurants that we subscribed to during COVID-19 to support local businesses. We have to make daily decisions with our email on what to open, what to delete, what to file what to mark as 'unread' to return to later, what to filter, what unsubscribe from, etc. And we all have different approaches to those decisions. As many of you know, EnglishUSA converted to an online-based communication platform -- EnglishUSA Engage -- back in April. It's the same one that NAFSA and TESOL use and while ...
The week of July 6th, 2020 is one that none of us reading this post will ever forget. In 10 years we'll be at the EnglishUSA Networking Reception at the NAFSA Annual Conference ask each other, "What were you doing during that week when the Fall 2020 ICE guidance came out?" The majority of us will likely have the same answer of where we were (HOME, of course!). And given that so many of us got into international education because it's WHO.WE.ARE and not just what we do, I imagine that the range of personal and professional reactions to the release of the ICE guidance for Fall 2020 will also be similar. At the time this post goes live (7/10/2020), there are ...
Some of us have been reflecting on the "silver linings" and the "lemonade from lemons" for English language programs in the US during this COVID-19 crisis. While it may be difficult for administrators, teachers, staff and students to see a bigger picture right now, given the time and energy resources being expended on the day-to-day tasks, one observation has become clear in the informal/formal virtual events and conversations EnglishUSA has held in the past few months. The collaborative spirit among the English language program personnel continues to thrive. In your own programs, this is vital among your units, on campuses and within communities to keep ...
Greetings! Thanks to those who have started the renewal process for dues. The steps are not always intuitive, so here are a few pointers. And you can always start the process (updating your data, adding people to account, etc.) and finish it later. Be sure to log into your PROGRAM profile and not your individual profile. This is not always as easy as it seems because your computer is always eating those "cookies" and might automatically go for your individual profile login. Nine times out of 10, this is usually the issue! Try clearing cookies or going to another browser. Make those updates to the program profile! We added and revised a few questions ...
EnglishUSA is launching its new online community for members called EnglishUSA Engage on April 30th. This is a new and improved benefit for members that will allow them to connect, learn and share online from their online platform with immediate access to full discussions, library, event information, announcements, etc.). During the past few challenging months for our members, EnglishUSA has offered up dozen virtual events to help connect members and share challenges, strategies and best practices regarding online delivery, staff morale, student support, and town halls reflecting on the future of the industry. The timing is perfect for the new online ...
