    Dear [immigration staffer],

My name is [insert name and affiliation if appropriate] and I am a constituent of [insert lawmaker's name] from [insert city]. I recently learned that Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Wash.) is leading a letter to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in support of the significant contributions international students and scholars make to our country and the vital importance of maintaining the duration of status policy.

The letter rightfully asserts that the DHS proposed rule to limit the admission period for international students would place a "significant burden on our immigration system, slow the economy, and cause detrimental harm to our universities." Note that international students studying in the district contributed [$XX million] to the economy in the 2018-2019 academic year. [insert data from NAFSA's econ value tool].

Rep. Herrera Beutler is now seeking Republican colleagues to join her in signing this letter. As a constituent, I urge your boss to join her in support of a matter of such vital importance to the U.S. economy and the higher education system in this country. The deadline to sign on is Monday, October 19.

To sign on, or to learn more, please reach out to Rachel Thompson (Rachel.Thompson@mail.house.gov) in Rep. Herrera Beutler's office.

    Thank you.
